Designing a new home in the context of an established neighborhood can sometimes be a challenge. Especially when a neighborhood has more traditional design standards required of new home construction than a new owner may desire. The owners loved the neighborhood and wanted their home to fit within the fabric of the neighborhood, but still have its own unique character. Summer trips to Colorado helped shape the design direction of the stucco and stone house, along with the desire to have generous outdoor living. Rather than locate a gathering area in the backyard, the front of the house facing the street became the focal point with a large, rectangular fire pit and seating surrounded by landscaped space with native plants and large boulders. Outdoor living was also accommodated with covered outdoor space around the perimeter of the house, including a screened patio. The interior of the house is simple and open, providing views of the outdoors.
